Government plans to extend high-speed internet to all corners of Switzerland
The Federal Council has submitted a proposal to the Parliament aimed at supporting high-speed connections in sparsely populated areas. The goal is to achieve speeds of at least 1 gigabit per second everywhere in Switzerland.
Consequently, the government has launched an incentive programme on Wednesday to support this rollout.
The aim is to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural areas.
Zurich train station maintains the top spot in international ranking
For several years in a row, Zurich’s central station has scored the number 1 spot in the European Railway Station Index, and 2026 is no different.
The survey, carried out by the Consumer Choice Center, which ranked 60 of Europe’s busiest stations, chose Zurich again for its “reliability and quality.”
“Zurich Station’s results on waiting times and delays stand out as being some of the lowest in the entire index, with a mere 4.06 percent of total trips being delayed,” the survey’s authors reported.
Also in the top-10 is the Bern station, in the 5th place.
Fewer Swiss people are travelling to the USA
Following a drop last year, the downward trend in travel to the United States has accelerated during the first half of 2026.
According to Andrea Beffa, managing director of the Swiss Travel Association (SRV), between January and the end of June, 120,000 travellers from Switzerland flew to the US – a decline of 16.5 percent compared to the same period last year.
Already in 2025, the number of Swiss travellers entering the United States fell by 10.6 percent in comparison to 2024.
Earlier this year, the SRV attributed this drop in Swiss tourists to Donald Trump’s policies – both globally and toward Switzerland as well.

SWISS will resume its flights to Dubai at the end of October
From October 27th, SWISS will once again operate daily flights between Zurich and Dubai with a daily service, the airline announced on Wednesday.
Dubai-bound flights were suspended for security reasons in February, after the US and Israel launched air strikes against Iran.
